Turkish Angora
The Turkish Angora is a natural breed that is thought to have originated in Turkey during the 15th century. Some theories of origin say that the Turkish Angora results from a genetic mutation in an African wild cat. Conversely, others believe that cats developed their long, silky fur to protect them from the harsh, snowy climates of Ankara (formerly Angora). However, one legend suggests that Turkish Angoras were developed before the fifteenth century. It is commonly said that the Islamic prophet Muhammad once cut the sleeve of his robe to avoid disturbing an angora who was sleeping on it.
